Re: Leadership from U of T, UBC, and McGill University Emphasize Critical Need to Invest in Research (PDAD&C #18)

As part of the University’s mounting advocacy efforts to encourage the government to implement the Naylor Report recommendations, President Gertler joined Suzanne Fortier and Santa Ono, his counterparts at McGill University and the University of British Columbia, in an op-ed this week in The Globe & Mail to underscore the critical need to improve research funding in Canada.

The op-ed argues that failing to implement the Report recommendations could lead to “…decades of missed opportunities that could constrain innovation and prosperity, diminish health outcomes, limit our understanding of societal challenges, and impair our ability to support the kinds of social programs we value.”

The University has signalled that adoption of the Report is its priority recommendation to the federal government this year, and continues to work closely with sector organizations and other Canadian universities in its advocacy efforts.
