Re: Update on Merit (PTR/5%) Process for the 2019-20 Academic Year (PDAD&C #80)

This memo is further to PDAD&C memos #58 and #61, the latter of which encouraged Faculties “to extend their internal deadlines to provide individual faculty members and librarians with at least one month and up to two months additional time to submit their materials as can best be accommodated within the Faculty’s specific context to assist with the performance evaluation process for faculty members and librarians.”

Salary, Benefits and Workload bargaining with UTFA has begun for the period beginning July 1, 2020; however, we do not yet have an agreement. Nonetheless, units should continue in the performance evaluation process for faculty and librarians.

We will issue a further memo concerning any salary increases or merit (PTR/5% Merit), if agreed to, promptly following an agreement in that regard. Increases, if any, would be retroactive to July 1, 2020.

Special Base Salary Increase

Please note that, effective July 1, 2020, all faculty and librarians will receive the second, of two, previously agreed to, special base salary increases of 0.9% that will be applied up to the maximum pensionable salary cap of $169,500.

Faculty Salary Letters

Salary letter templates are available online. These templates include the special base salary increase referred to above.

Tenure-Stream, Part-Time, and CLTA Faculty:

  • Breakpoint: $169,650

Teaching-Stream Faculty (Continuing and Term Appointments):

  • Breakpoint: $151,300

Librarians:

5% Merit Pool

MDFs

Recommendations with respect to 5% Merit Pool awards in multi-department Faculties should be forwarded to the Dean in line with instructions provided by the Dean’s Office.

SDFs

Given the adjustments that many Faculties have made to their own internal timelines, we are not yet establishing the timeline on which our office should receive recommendations for the 5% Merit Pool from Deans of single department Faculties. We will issue further instructions by mid July.
