Re: New Faculty Orientation (PDAD&C #4)

We are asking all Deans, Chairs, and Academic Directors to encourage new faculty members and librarians to attend this year’s New Faculty Orientation. This event is intended to provide newly appointed faculty members and librarians with an unparalleled opportunity to network and build community soon after commencing their appointment. Skilled facilitators and experienced faculty members and librarians from across the institution’s three campuses will introduce key resources and contacts, discuss teaching perspectives and best practices, and highlight essential U of T policies. Attending the New Faculty Orientation will assist new appointees in integrating into the dynamic and diverse environment that is the University of Toronto.

New Faculty Orientation*
Monday August 29, 2016
9:00am – 6:00pm
(*for newly appointed tenure and teaching stream faculty as well as new permanent status librarians only)

The orientation will include sessions on teaching and supporting our students, a teaching and learning information fair, discussions with award-winning instructors, and break-out sessions tailored specifically to academic appointment types (a research orientation for tenure stream faculty or creating a successful career path in the teaching stream). Partners and spouses of new faculty are also invited to attend an orientation in the afternoon, followed by a BBQ for faculty and their family at the end of the day.

Newly appointed tenure and teaching stream faculty and new permanent status librarians will receive a personalized invitation via email to attend the New Faculty Orientation. A registration link for the orientation will be provided in the email.

This event is hosted by the Office of the Vice-President & Provost and the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (CTSI), in partnership with the Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation, University of Toronto Libraries, Dual Career Connection, and the Family Care Office.
