Re: Assistant Provost, Trinity College

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Steels as Assistant Provost, Trinity College, effective July 1, 2015. In this role, Jonathan will provide senior level support to further the key priorities of the Provost and the College. This will include providing strategic leadership and high level support to move forward key College initiatives; assisting in the development of short and long-range plans; communicating with internal and external stakeholders on issues of importance to Trinity College; and helping to manage the relationship with the University of Toronto both in academic and administrative fields.

Jonathan’s distinctive combination of experience and education make him uniquely well-positioned for this role. Jonathan obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from U of T (2008) and is currently completing a MEd in Leadership in Higher Education at OISE. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, presented at national and international conferences, and taught within U of T courses in the Faculties of Arts & Science and Dentistry, as well as within the Trinity One program. Jonathan has worked at Trinity College since 2003 in the roles of Academic Don, Assistant Dean of Students and Dean of Students (his current role since 2009). He also serves as Chair of both the Council of the Deans of Students and the Hart House Board of Stewards.

Jonathan’s commitment to the student experience and intimate understanding of the Trinity and the University of Toronto community will be invaluable for the Assistant Provost role. We are indeed fortunate to have Jonathan join the Provost’s Office – please join me in congratulating him on his new position at Trinity College.

Jonathan will continue to provide support to the Office of the Dean of Students during the transitional period over the summer.
