Re: Call for Nominations: Honorary Degree Recipients for 2020 (PDAD&C #93)

The Committee for Honorary Degrees invites nominations for honorary degree recipients for the 2020 calendar year. The Committee would like to encourage interest and participation in this important process and urges you and your colleagues to submit nominations for exceptional individuals.

By awarding honorary degrees, the University of Toronto seeks to recognize extraordinary achievement in Canada or abroad, in community, national, or international involvement. It also seeks to honour those individuals whose accomplishments are of such excellence that they provide, through example, inspiration and leadership to the graduates of the University. Their esteem should be such that, by virtue of accepting an honorary degree, their presence will bring honour and distinction to the University of Toronto.

Through the Committee’s recommendation of nominees to the Governing Council, it aims to reflect the national character of Canada, the desirable features of Canada’s regional and cultural diversity, and the character and diversity of the University itself. As such, it is important for the Committee to have a diverse pool of candidates so that it may consider diversity in all of its dimensions.

Please refer to the Committee for Honorary Degrees website for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), instructions, the nomination form (fillable PDF format), and other information about the process.

Nomination packages may be submitted at any time; however, the deadline for nominations for consideration for 2020 is Friday, September 13, 2019, no later than 5:00 p.m.
