Re: Call for Nominations – Advisory Committee for the Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean, University of Toronto Mississauga (PDAD&C #10)

On June 30, 2021, Professor Amrita Daniere will complete her term as Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean of the University of Toronto Mississauga. Professor Daniere has informed us that she will be stepping down as Vice-Principal & Dean to pursue her research and return to the professoriate.

As Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean, Professor Daniere has accelerated the growth of the University of Toronto Mississauga as a centre for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Under Professor Daniere’s leadership, UTM completed a major academic planning initiative involving unparalleled consultation, including input from students, faculty, staff, librarians, and alumni. UTM’s new academic plan lays out a roadmap for UTM to make the most of its superb community, resources, and location. Professor Daniere guided the establishment of UTM’s ground-breaking Institute for the Study of University Pedagogy. She has been a champion for sustainability, helping create the Sustainability Advisory Committee and supporting the inaugural Sustainability: Transdisciplinary Theory, Practice, and Action conference at UTM in October 2019. Professor Daniere has also been a strong advocate for diversity, equity, and accessibility on campus. She oversaw the creation of new faculty and staff positions for Indigenous studies at UTM, and struck several working groups aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusion across the UTM community. In undertaking the role of Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean, Professor Daniere has helped distinguish UTM for its rigorous and innovative academic environment, world-class research, and a cohesive community that enriches the student experience.

In accordance with Section 62 (c) of the Policy on Appointment of Academic Administrators, we are writing to call for the nominations of individuals to serve on the Committee that will advise on the appointment of a new Vice-Principal, Academic & Dean.
