Approval of Policy and Procedures Governing Promotions in the Teaching Stream (PDAD&C #46)

A new Policy and Procedures Governing Promotions in the Teaching Stream was unanimously approved by Governing Council at its December 15 meeting.

The new Policy arises from the Special Joint Advisory Committee (SJAC) process and the establishment of professoriate ranks for teaching stream faculty. The parties to the SJAC process agreed to develop, on an expedited basis, a process for promotion to the rank of Professor, Teaching Stream.

The Policy was developed in consultation with various stakeholder groups across the University and through discussions with the University of Toronto Faculty Association.

In light of the criteria in the new policy, divisions will need to review and develop their guidelines for the assessment of teaching effectiveness. The Office of Faculty & Academic Life will be working closely with divisions in the coming months to support them in this process.
