I am delighted to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Robyn Stremler as Dean, Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing for a five-year term from May 15, 2024 to June 30, 2029, after an extensive international search.  

A Professor in the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, Professor Stremler is recognized internationally for her research in the area of paediatrics, particularly sleep, in partnership with collaborators at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Professor Stremler received her BSc from Queen’s University, her MSc in Nursing from McGill University, and her PhD in Nursing Science from University of Toronto. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in sleep and circadian rhythms jointly at University of California San Francisco and the University of Toronto. She joined the University of Toronto in 2006. 

An accomplished adjunct scientist at SickKids, Professor Stremler is a dedicated clinician and researcher. Her research program is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and she has received many prestigious awards including the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation Early Researcher Award, the RNAO Leadership Award for Nursing Research, and being named as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. 

A committed educator and mentor, Professor Stremler has supported the professional development of many undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and front-line nurses. Professor Stremler has served as Acting Dean since January 2024. She is the past Director of the PhD program, serving from 2015-2028, and also served as Associate Dean, Academic in 2023 and Acting Associate Dean, Academic in 2018-19 and 2022.  

I am grateful to the Advisory Committee for their sage advice over the course of this search. Professor Stremler’s commitment to the profession of nursing, to current and future students, and to fostering co-operation across the healthcare sector will be key to the success of the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing in the years ahead.
