Re: Appointment of Professor Antoinette Handley as Acting Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science (PDAD&C #21)


I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Antoinette Handley as Acting Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science from July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024, while the current Dean, Professor Melanie Woodin, is on planned administrative leave.   

Professor Handley currently serves as Vice-Dean, Graduate Education at the Faculty of Arts and Science. Her research interests include African state-business relations and the nature of the capitalist class and elitesin Africa.

Professor Handley earned her undergraduate degree at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, and her MPhil in International Relations at Oxford University (1995). She earned her PhD in Political Science at Princeton University (2003). She joined the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor of Political Science in 2003 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2021.
