We are pleased to announce that Janice Johnson will be joining both the offices of Spaces & Experiences and the Vice-Provost, Students, as Executive Director, Student Housing & Residence Experience. Janice begins her role on April 8, 2024. In this new position, Janice will work closely with Professor Kenneth Corts, Provostial Advisor on Student Residences, to develop and implement a long-term strategy for student residences on the St. George campus.

Janice joins us from Queen’s University where she has served as Director, Student Services for the Faculty of Arts and Science since 2022. Known for her collaborative leadership style, she brings over 20 years of experience in academic services, from student housing and residences to student affairs and enrolment services.

Prior to her time at Queen’s, Janice was Managing Director, Residence Life and Customer Relations (2013-2016) at McGill University, and the Director, Residences Occupancy, Life, Education and Service (2017-22) at the University of Alberta. In these leadership roles, Janice was integral in strategic planning, occupancy/enrolment management, facilities development, budgeting, restructuring, policy development and governance, program development, evaluation and assessment, and student support and engagement. She has persevered through the full gamut of challenges, including both housing shortages and low occupancy, the need to close residence communities due to policy changes and fluctuating student needs, as well as the excitement of developing and opening new residence halls. In addition to her work supporting students, Janice has served on several community boards and foundations that support youth and young families.

Janice grew up in Montreal and studied at McGill University and Université de Montreal-HEC. In her off-hours, she can usually be found on a back-country hike with her musician partner and energetic teenage son, or on the couch with a good book and a cuddly cat.
