We are delighted to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Maydianne C.B. Andrade as the Acting Vice-Principal (Academic) and Acting Dean, University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), for a six-month term, beginning July 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2019, while Professor William Gough is on research leave.

Professor Andrade currently serves as the Vice-Dean Faculty Affairs & Equity in the Office of the Vice-Principal (Academic) and Dean. In this capacity, she provides advice on academic equity issues and oversees all academic HR matters including annual faculty complement plans, faculty recruitment, mentorship and promotion, and oversight of workload policies, to name a few aspects of the current role. She is a founder and co-chair of TIDE (Toronto Initiative for Diversity and Excellence) which uses an evidence-based approach to initiate conversations about equity across academic units at the University.

In addition, Professor Andrade is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, UTSC, where she teaches and does research in Evolutionary Biology. She was the Canadian Research Chair in Integrative Behavioural Ecology (2007- 2018) and is a Research Associate at the Royal Ontario Museum, as well serving there as the President’s representative on the Board of Trustees.

Professor Andrade is a distinguished scientist and has received numerous teaching and research awards for her work in the fields of evolutionary ecology and behaviour. Most recently, she was honoured for her contributions to the field by the Animal Behaviour Society. She is also a recipient of the UTSC’s Principal’s Research Award and The Underground’s Professor of the Year Award.
