Re: Announcement regarding Professor Heather Boon, Dean of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy (PDAD&C #37)

I am pleased to announce that Professor Heather Boon has accepted a role as the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life (VP-FAL) for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2018, and as a result she will be stepping down as Dean of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, effective June 30, 2018. For more details, please see PDAD&C #38.

Professor Boon’s extensive experience in key administrative roles at U of T will be a great asset to the VP-FAL portfolio. In particular, her work operationalizing new academic programs like the Pharm.D., and leading and implementing programs to support teaching innovation will be key to oversight of the VP-FAL office, which holds responsibility for academic human resources, including the appointment of faculty and librarians, tenure and promotion, and professional development; academic discipline; and quasi-judicial matters.

During her tenure as Interim Dean and Dean since 2013, Professor Boon has overseen tremendous positive change at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, restructuring the Office of the Dean and fostering a consultative and collaborative culture among the faculty and staff. In addition, Professor Boon has served as Chair of the Council of Health Sciences, and sat on other University-wide boards and committees.

Details on the Advisory Committee that will advise on the appointment of a new Dean of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy will be forthcoming from my office.
