Re: PTR Update
Salary, Benefits and Workload and COVID-19 Related Issues Discussion
Over the course of the past year, the University and the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA), have met on more than 30 occasions to discuss issues related to the pandemic and an agreement on salary, benefits and workload for the period of July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021.
As is the normal course for these discussions, the parties have agreed to proceed to mediation with a third party mediator, Kevin Burkett, on outstanding issues. This mediation commences on June 9, 2021.
Mediator Burkett will also work with the parties on a COVID-19 Letter of Understanding to address issues related to the pandemic.
JULY 1, 2021 PTR
In respect of July 1, 2021 PTR, the University wrote to UTFA in mid-March of 2021 seeking agreement to pay July 1, 2021 PTR to faculty and librarians in the July 2021 pay run, using the same PTR payment model as was used for the July 1, 2020 PTR payment. The University made this offer without having reached a salary, benefits and workload agreement with UTFA for the relevant period. To date, we have not reached agreement with UTFA. The University remains willing to pay July 1, 2021 PTR to faculty and librarians in the July 2021 pay run on the basis proposed by the University provided we can reach agreement.
