Re: Update on the Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost, International Student Experience (PDAD&C #40)
Professor Alexie Tcheuyap will be stepping down as Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost, International Student Experience effective June 28, 2024 to take up the position of Dean of Arts at the University of Waterloo as of July 1, 2024.
As Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost, Professor Tcheuyap brought his authentic leadership style to the portfolio, with a clear commitment to supporting our international students and all of our students to engage globally. Since his appointment in September 2021, Professor Tcheuyap has led in the development of new student mobility partnerships in Sub Saharan Africa and with Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs); supported the ongoing development of accessible global learning opportunities at home through Global Classrooms; led the renewal and relaunch of the International Student Experience Fund program, enabling units to collaborate to provide extended support for international students; and worked to extend support for international students throughout the winter break period. In addition, he initiated the revitalization planning for the Centre for International Experience’s Cumberland House, which will see improved space for staff and students when complete. Professor Tcheuyap has contributed to shaping several global alliances, including the Canada Caribbean Institute and a developing Global Humanities Alliance.
Professor Tcheuyap has served in a number of leadership roles during his time at the university, including as Vice-Dean, Academic Life and Equity, Faculty of Arts and Sciences (2019-2021); Chair, Department of French (2017-2019); and Associate Chair, Undergraduate Studies, Department of French (2016-2017). Throughout, Professor Tcheuyap has demonstrated a continued commitment to innovation and diversity through his teaching, scholarship and administrative work, contributing to meaningful change not only in his field, but also on the broader university, national, and international stage.
