Re: | Now Available – University of Toronto’s Canada Research Chair Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan (PDAD&C #42) |
The University of Toronto’s Action Plan will guide our efforts in ensuring the representation of individuals from the federally designated groups — persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, and women — among those who hold Canada Research Chairs across the University and its affiliated hospitals. The current version of the Action Plan has benefited from consultation with a number of groups at the University, and will continue to evolve as additional ideas and refinements are brought forward.
The University’s Action Plan was developed as a part of the Canada Research Chairs Program’s (CRCP) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan, which was released earlier this year, following the CRCP Steering Committee’s 15 year evaluation of the Program. The CRCP’s Action Plan requires institutions to meet certain milestones if Program funding is to continue uninterrupted:
- October 27, 2017: meet the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Public Accountability and Transparency Requirements, including the posting of all available Canada Research Chair opportunities online;
- December 15, 2017: publicly release the University’s own institutional Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan;
- December 2019: meet targets for the federally designated groups.
The University and its affiliated hospitals will progressively meet our Action Plan’s objectives within the next two years. Initiatives taken under the Action Plan will complement and support existing institutional equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and may be revised and updated to encompass input and initiatives from our community. Comments on the University’s Plan may be addressed to crc@utoronto.ca.
