Re: Lucy Fromowitz, Assistant Vice-President, Student Life accepts position as Vice-Provost Students at York University

I write to announce to members of the University of Toronto community an exciting opportunity that Ms. Lucy Fromowitz has accepted to serve as Vice-Provost Students at York University beginning July 1, 2017. In order to transition to the new position, Lucy will be stepping down from her role as Assistant Vice-President, Student Life effective June 16, 2017.

Lucy has been an absolute force in transforming and rethinking student life and student experience at the University of Toronto, St. George. Since joining the University in 2008, Lucy has adeptly delivered on the mandate to align the Division of Student Life and create a unified vision and strategy for student support and success at the University of Toronto. Under her leadership, a culture of collaboration, communication, and support has been fostered across all areas related to student life and with the colleges and faculties.

Over the course of her tenure at U of T, Lucy has worked tirelessly on many initiatives important to her portfolio including: establishing a cohesive strategy for student life programs; seeking active, ongoing partnerships with academic leaders and divisional staff to support their endeavours and reduce the gap between curricular and co-curricular learning; engendering a sense of community across the student body; reinforcing and supporting student learning and development, and working with front-line staff in academic divisions and colleges in the implementations and delivery of services and activities. Some specific initiatives include the Innovation Hub, SLP (Student Life Professionals Network), the Co-curricular Record, and program and supports related to mental health such as the establishment of embedded counsellors.

Lucy has been widely successful in building strong relationships across the University and has assembled a professional team of leaders across the student life division who are well-equipped to carry this important work forward.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Lucy for her exceptional service and dedication to student life at the University of Toronto. Details regarding an event to celebrate Lucy’s many contributions will be forthcoming. Please join me in congratulating her on this wonderful new appointment and wishing her every continued success.
