Re: Final Report of the Working Group on Civil Discourse and Administrative Response (PDAD&C #38)
In January 2024, I asked Professor Randy Boyagoda to take on the role of Provostial Advisor on Civil Discourse and support the University in strengthening an environment in which robust dialogue, academic curiosity, and civil engagement on difficult questions can thrive.
As part of his mandate, Professor Boyagoda chaired a Working Group on Civil Discourse, comprised of 15 faculty members and graduate and undergraduate students. This Working Group consulted widely across the University, conducted internal and external landscape scans of existing civil discourse initiatives, and considered the findings of other similar working groups from peer institutions.
On behalf of the Working Group, Professor Boyagoda has delivered its Final Report and Recommendations. I am pleased to accept these recommendations as detailed in my Administrative Response.
I would like to thank Professor Boyagoda, the members of the Working Group, the assessors, project team, and all those who participated in this vital initiative.
