Re: Extension to Deadline to Apply to Special Retirement Program (PDAD&C #55)

As you know, governments and institutions around the world have been responding in various ways to the threats posed by the novel coronavirus. We realize that many of you may have been busy for the past few weeks due to various COVID-19 related matters.

We are writing to advise you of an extension (to April 15, 2020) to the deadline for faculty members and librarians to elect to be covered by the Special Retirement Program. The program, which is offered on a one-time-only basis, will provide a financial option for eligible faculty members and librarians who choose to retire or commence a paid leave of absence leading to retirement as of June 30, 2020.

The Special Retirement Program was first announced on November 29, 2019 in PDAD&C #26.  Under the original memo, the deadline for faculty members or librarians to notify the University of their election to participate in the program was April 1, 2020. We have now extended that deadline by two weeks to April 15, 2020. Because of the impact of government regulations, unfortunately, we cannot extend the deadline further.

The Special Retirement Program has a specific application form. For more information on the Special Retirement Program, please see here.

We thank you for your understanding as to the limited extension we can provide to this deadline and also for your patience as the University implements  measures to slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19 in our community.
