Re: Extension of Professor Wendy Duff as Dean, Faculty of Information (PDAD&C #29)

I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved an eighteen-month extension of Professor Wendy Duff as Dean of the Faculty of Information from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

Professor Wendy Duff was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Information in 2016 (PDAD&C #78, 2015-16). During her tenure as Dean, she continues to make substantial progress and improvements to the Faculty’s operating budget, enrolment targets, program reviews, and space considerations. Professor Duff has also overseen the development of the Faculty’s one-of-kind second-entry Bachelor of Information (BI) program. Over the next year-and-a-half, Dean Duff will lead the Faculty in a self-study process and an external review under the U of T Quality Assurance Process framework.

Professor Duff teaches archives and records management with a focus on access to archival materials and social justice. Her current research focuses on the emotional responses to archives, access to archival material, and the impact of archives on social justice. One of her collaborative projects investigated the impact of technology on museums for the Canadian Heritage Information Network. She has also received research funding from SSHRC, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the National Historical Publications & Records Commission.

Please join me in thanking Professor Duff for her willingness to take on this extension as Dean of the iSchool. I would also like to thank the members of the Advisory Committee on the Dean for their dedication and time to the process over the past year.
