Re: Extension of Professor Kent Moore as Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation, UTM

I am pleased to announce that Professor Kent Moore has generously agreed to extend his term as UTM’s Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation, for two more months – from 1 July to 31 August 2024. This extension creates strong leadership continuity as UTM completes the search for our next Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation, as announced in November 2023

Professor Moore has led our research portfolio for the past six years, during which time he and his team have strengthened outstanding core facilities; published the first strategic research framework in campus history; and promoted research-based entrepreneurship, including through SpinUp, which just opened as U of T’s first wet lab accelerator for early-stage life science innovation.

His own research continues to raise the standard for excellence in Arctic climate science. Professor Moore has earned more than $8.5 million in research funding and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, including in Nature, Science, and the New England Journal of Medicine.

His insights shape public conversations, too, frequently featured in national media to address questions about climate change. In 2024, he earned the Patterson Distinguished Service Medal to recognize his lifetime contributions to meteorology.

Please join me in thanking Professor Moore for his continued leadership.
