Re: Appointment of Professor Trevor Young as Acting Vice-President and Provost and Professor Patricia Houston as Acting Dean of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine (PDAD&C #61)
I am pleased to announce that the Governing Council has approved the appointment of Professor Trevor Young as Acting Vice-President and Provost for a six-month term, effective July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021, while Provost Cheryl Regehr is on an approved administrative leave.
The Governing Council had previously approved the appointment of Professor Young as Acting Vice-President and Provost effective April 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. However, in April 2020 in light of the demands facing the University as a result of COVID-19, Professor Regehr decided to defer her leave.
Professor Young is a seasoned academic administrator; his wealth of experience, his leadership record, and his impact as a scholar will serve the University well during this six-month acting appointment. Professor Young currently serves as Dean of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions.
I am also pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Patricia Houston as Acting Dean of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine for a nine-month term, effective July 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Professor Houston will serve in this acting role during Professor Young’s acting term and subsequent three-month leave. [Professor Young will continue to hold the position of Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions while Acting Provost.]
Professor Patricia Houston is currently the Vice-Dean, Medical Education in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine. Professor Houston has served in a number of leadership roles both in the University and at St. Michael’s Hospital (Unity Health Toronto).
I would like to thank Professors Young and Houston for agreeing to take on these important roles.
