I am delighted to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Salvatore Spadafora as Acting Dean, Faculty of Medicine, and the Executive Committee of Governing Council has approved the appointment of Professor Lynn Wilson as Acting Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions. Professor Spadafora and Professor Wilson will be serving in these acting capacities for a six-month period from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020, while Professor Trevor Young, the current Dean, Faculty of Medicine, and Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions is on approved administrative leave.
Dean Young will continue to act in his role as Chair of the Presidential & Provostial Task Force on Student Mental Health while on administrative leave; every effort will be made by the Task Force to complete its work by December 31, 2019.
Professor Salvatore Spadafora currently serves as Vice-Dean, Post MD Education at the Faculty of Medicine. During his time as Vice-Dean, Professor Spadafora has been noted for his superb leadership and administrative skills. Under his guidance, the Faculty has excelled in the areas of academic oversight, program governance, and the financial management of its post MD activities, including clinical fellowships and training agreements. Professor Salvatore Spadafora joined the Department of Anesthesia in 2010 and is an anesthesiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital. He received his MD from the University of Toronto, completed his FRCPC anesthesia training at the University of Western Ontario, and his master’s degree in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Professor Lynn Wilson currently serves as Vice-Dean, Partnerships at the Faculty and Associate Vice-Provost, Relations with Health Care Institutions. In undertaking these dual roles, Professor Wilson has played a key role in developing the University’s relationships with its health science partners. She has responsibility for the Faculty’s relationships with its community and fully affiliated hospitals, as well as other health agencies, government agencies, community organizations, and international collaborators. Under Professor Wilson’s guidance, the Faculty of Medicine and U of T have leveraged our location to increase collaboration, develop innovative opportunities for researchers, educators, and learners, and advance strategic international relations. Prior to serving as Vice-Dean and Associate Vice-Provost, Professor Wilson served as Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
Please join me in thanking Professor Spadafora and Professor Wilson for taking on these acting roles at the Faculty of Medicine.
