Re: Announcement of the Vice-Dean, Students at the School of Graduate Studies (PDAD&C #76)

I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Charmaine Williams as Vice-Dean, Students at the School of Graduate Studies for a for a five-year term starting July 1, 2019.

Professor Williams has served as Acting Vice-Dean, Students, School of Graduate Studies since May 7, 2018. During this time, she has been a strong advocate for programmatic and administrative change that decreases barriers to graduate education. Her expertise in the areas of mental health and her extensive experience working with underrepresented communities will continue to inform decision-making at the graduate level. Among her first objectives as Vice-Dean, Students will be to lead the development of a mental health strategy for the School of Graduate Studies. This strategy will be an important complement to the Presidential and Provostial Task Force on Student Mental Health.

An Associate Professor in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and the Factor-Inwentash Chair in Health and Mental Health, Professor Williams has also served as Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Officer (2003-2004) and Provostial Advisor on Access Programs (2014-2015). From 2009 to 2014, she served as Associate Dean, Academic of the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Williams on her appointment.
