Re: Reminder – Upcoming Deadline to submit Notice of Intention to Retire for Faculty (PDAD&C #27)

This is a formal notice that under the customary process, faculty members who wish to commence retirement on July 1, 2023 must give notice of their intention by July 1, 2022. This is the annual formal reminder of this deadline.

Now is the time to remind faculty members in your unit to start thinking about retirement options so they have enough time to gather sufficient information to make an informed decision.

Additional information and all necessary forms regarding the normal retirement process for Chairs, Deans, and Directors is available online.

Effective July 1, 2021, U of T is part of University Pension Plan Ontario. Faculty members and librarians considering retirement are encouraged to read the following articles posted to the HR Service Centre: Planning to Retire and Income & Benefits in Retirement

Please note that if a faculty member wishes to apply to take an earned research and study leave while in phased retirement, they must apply at the time of giving notice of intention to enter into phased retirement so that the leave can be considered and approved in the context of the planning process for the phased retirement.

For more information on retirement options, please reach out to the Academic HR contact in your Dean’s Office or the Office of the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life at academic.hr@utoronto.ca.
