Photo of Glen JonesWe are delighted to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Glen A. Jones as the Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) for a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2021.

Professor Jones is the Ontario Research Chair in Postsecondary Education Policy and Measurement, Professor of Higher Education, and is currently serving as the Interim Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

Professor Jones is widely recognized as a distinguished academic administrator and an internationally renowned scholar. He has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to service to OISE, the University, and the wider community, nationally and internationally. Professor Jones is a former Chair of the Department of Theory and Policy Studies in Education (1998-2000), Associate Dean (2003-2011) and Acting Dean (2009), and he has been a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba and the Governing Council of the University of Toronto. Professor Jones is a past president of the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education and a former editor of the Canadian Journal of Higher Education.

Professor Jones has a stellar scholarly reputation nationally and internationally and is regarded as a leader in his field. His research focuses on higher education policy, governance, academic work, and administration. He is currently working on a SSHRC-funded project focused on university governance in Canadian universities and an international project on the changing academic profession. Professor Jones holds degrees from the University of Manitoba (B.A., 1983; B.Ed., 1985) and the University of Toronto (M.Ed., 1988; Ph.D., 1991).

Professor Jones is well acquainted with OISE’s programs and curriculum, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. He is admired by community members for his highly collaborative and thoughtful leadership style. Please join me in congratulating Professor Jones on his appointment.
