Re: Appointment of Professor Brenda McCabe as Provostial Advisor on Student Enrolment (PDAD&C #18)
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Brenda McCabe as Provostial Advisor on Student Enrolment. Professor McCabe’s appointment is until June 30, 2020.
Professor McCabe will advise me on ways to improve our current structures and processes for enrolling students by working collaboratively across U of T’s institutional offices, academic divisions, colleges, and campuses. In this capacity, Professor McCabe will be the academic lead overseeing the implementation of a recent review of enrolment services, which identified challenges impacting recruitment, admissions, enrolment, and registrarial services across the University. Professor McCabe’s work will examine topics such as the impact of new systems and software on the admissions and enrolment process, and the need for coordination and collaboration among multiple offices across the University.
Professor McCabe will be supported by Sally Garner, Senior Strategist, Operational Initiatives. In the coming year they will be in close communication with stakeholders across the University to contribute to the goal of improving how we attract, select, and support our students from recruitment to convocation.
Professor McCabe is a faculty member in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. Her academic research focuses on collecting data and developing tools and processes to improve construction site safety and make construction safer for both workers and site visitors. Professor McCabe has applied her research working with the Toronto Airport Authority on its recent renovations to the Pearson International Airport, as well as collaborations with the Ministry of Transportation on its highway construction processes. Professor McCabe’s skills and experience designing systems and processes that are safe, intelligent, and efficient from a human perspective make her ideally suited for this role.
I am confident Professor McCabe’s expertise will us move towards an enrolment services model that is modern, flexible, efficient, and student-centred. Please join me in thanking Professor McCabe for her willingness to take on this important role.
