We are very pleased to announce that the University Administration and the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA) have reached a tentative agreement regarding changes to the Policy and Procedures on Employment Conditions of Part-time Faculty (“Part-time Policy”) and the Manual of Staff Policies for Academics/Librarians. These changes were agreed to during Salary, Benefits and Workload negotiations for the July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026 period. These changes are summarized below.

Part-time Policy:

  • Initial appointments and renewal appointments may now be made for up to a maximum of up to three years.
  • Provision to appeal an unsuccessful review for continuing appointment in certain circumstances.

These changes were ratified by UTFA Council on October 24, 2025 andwill proceed to the University’s governance in Cycle 2, and, subject to Governing Council approval, will take effect on January 1, 2026.
