Re: Staff Announcement: Director, Office of the Vice-President, Operations & Real Estate Partnerships

I am writing to share the news that Elizabeth Cragg will be leaving the Office of the Vice-President, Operations & Real Estate Partnerships to take on a new role as Chief Administrative Officer of University College, effective February 9, 2026. While I am enormously pleased for Elizabeth and for UC who are gaining a thoughtful, principled, and deeply capable administrative leader, her departure will, of course, be felt across our portfolio.

For more than a decade, Elizabeth has been a central force in helping OREP operate with clarity, steadiness, and shared purpose. She has shaped many of the practices that now define how we work: our risk assessment framework, our business continuity planning, and our participation in UniForum and service-effectiveness initiatives. She also played a significant operational role beyond the portfolio during her 18-month partial secondment supporting the PanAm and ParaPanAm Games at U of T, where she worked across HR, IT, Facilities, and external partners to ensure the University could host safely, seamlessly, and with integrity.

Just as importantly, Elizabeth has been one of the portfolio’s quiet culture-builders. For a decade she has coordinated the OREP Awards process and the annual OREP BBQ, initiatives that have become touchstones for recognizing our colleagues and bringing our community together each summer. Her work behind the scenes helped create the sense of shared purpose, connection, and appreciation that defines the portfolio today.

Throughout all of this, Elizabeth has brought people together across campuses, divisions, and roles to navigate complex operational and governance issues with the rare combination of candour, patience, and good humour that has become her hallmark.

We are finalizing the transition plan for Elizabeth’s major files and will share formal reassignment details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I want to reassure the portfolio that Elizabeth will continue to be available to respond to and triage inquiries related to these areas until the next Vice-President is appointed and able to recruit their own Director. Her commitment to ensuring stability and continuity during this period is deeply appreciated.

Frankly, I recognize that Elizabeth, in all aspects of the role, is the perfect Director of OREP as she managed every opportunity and challenge with aplomb, enthusiasm, expertise and deep commitment to the portfolio and University.  I will deeply miss her but will always celebrate when one of the ‘team’ moves on to bigger opportunities.  I know you will join me in thanking Elizabeth for her leadership, her generosity, and her unwavering dedication to the University. UC is gaining a remarkable colleague
