Re: Reappointment of Professor Gretchen Kerr as Dean, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (PDAD&C #51)
I am pleased to announce that the Agenda Committee of Academic Board has approved the reappointment of Professor Gretchen Kerr as Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education for a five-year term from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031.
Under Professor Kerr’s leadership, the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) continues its mission to develop, advance, and disseminate knowledge about physical activity, health, and their interactions through education, research, leadership and the provision of opportunity. The Faculty has strengthened its research productivity; KPE is one of the leading schools in North America for kinesiology and remains number four in the world for sports-related disciplines.
Professor Kerr has led the transformational integration of the strategic and operational oversight of academic, athletic, and physical activity programs within KPE to advance the integration of education, research, and practice within a culture that prioritizes access, equity and inclusion.
Professor Kerr is a renowned scholar and leader in the field of kinesiology and physical education, whose research addresses sport integrity, with specific foci on the prevention of athlete maltreatment, safeguarding, and gender equity.
Professor Kerr received her MA at York University and her BPHE and PhD in Exercise Sciences at the University of Toronto. She joined the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education in 1989.
Professor Kerr’s tireless leadership will continue to be key to the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education’s successes. Please join me in congratulating Professor Kerr on her reappointment.
