Re: Call for Submissions to U of T’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Steering Committee (PDAD&C #54)

As was announced earlier this year, the President and I have formed a University-wide Truth and Reconciliation Commission Steering Committee to make recommendations on implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action that are applicable to the University.

The Steering Committee has formed a number of working groups to provide it with recommendations on the subjects of Indigenous Curriculum, Indigenous Students (including recruitment), Indigenous Faculty and Staff, Indigenous Co-Curricular Education, and Indigenous Research Ethics and Community Relationships. These working groups will conduct additional consultations with members of the University community. We know that a number of divisions such as Law have also formed or are in the process of forming committees of their own to address particular recommendations that impact them.

The Steering Committee would welcome submissions from members of the University community – both individuals and groups – regarding implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action as they apply to the University. Written submissions should be submitted via email before October 1, 2016 to munkschool.director@utoronto.ca. All submissions will be reviewed by the Steering Committee.

A second call for submissions will be issued in early September for submission by the same deadline. The Steering Committee will submit its final recommendations to the President and me by December 31, 2016.
