Re: Now Available – Updated Graduate Funding Information (PDAD&C #77)

In a continued effort to promote transparency about graduate funding at the University of Toronto, the School of Graduate Studies has made two important updates to our website.

We have published the current base funding values per faculty along with average graduate student incomes on our Understand Your Funding page. Where contributed by faculties, notes are also supplied to provide additional information about the composition of base funding: for instance, what percentage has been allotted to internal and external awards, TAships, research stipends, and other income. It is our hope that sharing this information will help students, faculty, and administrators view their own programs in a larger context, and gain a broader understanding of the variations in funding packages across programs and faculties. Graduate units are encouraged to review their published data and to direct any questions or updates to Alice Brummell, Coordinator, Student Support and Financial Aid at alice.brummell@utoronto.ca.

We have also published a conflict resolution pathway, developed in consultation with the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU), for graduate students who have a complaint about the interpretation, implementation, or compliance with University, faculty and/or graduate unit policy regarding their individual funding package. I encourage both graduate units and supervisors to become familiar with the funding complaint process, and to refer students to our web page as necessary.
