Re: Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (PDAD&C #57)

I regret to announce that Professor Howard Hu, Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH), has decided not to seek reappointment for a second term as Dean. A search committee for the next Dean of the DLSPH will be developed and launched in the coming months. In the meantime, an Interim Dean will be identified and appointed to begin on July 1, 2017, at the conclusion of Dean Hu’s current term.

The University thanks Professor Hu for the outstanding leadership he provided to the DLSPH during an exciting time of the School’s development and expansion, including its transition in 2013 to become the first new stand-alone Faculty in the University in 15 years, and the creation of the associated necessary infrastructure and the subsequent transition of the Institute for Health Policy Management and Evaluation as well as the Joint Centre for Bioethics into the School. Professor Hu also stewarded the launch of a suite of successful initiatives, such as a marked expansion of its graduate enrolments, the creation of the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute for Indigenous Health; the completion of a far-reaching 2016-2021 Strategic Plan; and successful fundraising initiatives. Finally, in 2016, Dr. Hu successfully guided the School through its first University of Toronto Quality Assurance Process and external review.

Please join me in wishing Dr. Hu well on his future plans.
